I. BRIEF HISTORY
Late Kaka Pribhdas S. Tolani, founder president of Gandhidham Collegiate Board, Adipur was instrumental in playing a very important role in starting this movement in the twin city of Adipur – Gandhidham in Kutch – Gujarat.
Before independence, he was one of the major landlord of Sindh at Larkana. There, he came in the contact with Swami Ranganathanandaji who was then President of Ramakrishna Mission, Karachi.
After partition, he settled in Mumbai and became a renowned ship owner. In 1967, he founded the Gandhidham Collegiate Board and started colleges in Adipur.
Inspired by Swami Rangananthanandaji, he had a dream of having one centre of Ramakrishna Mission in Adipur. To complete his dream, Sri Ramakrishna Seva Kendra, Adipur was registered as a trust in 1991 by his son Mr. Nandlal Tolani and daughter Mrs. Jamvanti Kanal.
Later, a land measuring 2.75 acres was purchased by the centre, where Sri Ramakrishna Prayer Hall was built. The Bhoomi Pujan was done on 20th June, 2002, and it was inaugurated on 28th March, 2003. Both events were performed by Swami Jitatmanandaji.
The next annexure namely Ma Sarada Bhavan was added later. Its Bhoomi Pujan was performed by Swami Mumukshanandaji on 15th September, 2007. It was inaugurated by Swami Vagishanandaji on 1st April, 2008.
Currently, the centre’s President is Kaka Tolani’s daughter Mrs. Anjana Hazari.
II. ACTIVITIES
1. Daily, worship of Sri Ramakrishna and Evening Arati are conducted in temple.
2. Ramnaam Sankirtan and bhajans are conducted on every Ekadashi.
3. Reading from Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita is done on every Wednesday & Friday.
4. On every Thursday, people gather to meditate at centre.
5. Birth Anniversary celebrations of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Ma Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda along with other festivals such as Guru Purnima, Christmas, Navratri, Janmashtami are organized with great fervour.
6. Ma Sarada Vocational Training Centre (Run under the guidance of Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot) since November 2005.
Tailoring classes for needy women is conducted daily from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in two batches with 16 sewing machines; the course is for four months and at present, 40 women per batch are benefited. Till now, total 1,500 women have been benefited.
7. Educational Activities : Jamvanti Kanal Tutorials
(i) Coaching classes for needy students are conducted daily for students of std. 5 to 10 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for 30 students annually. Till now, total 300 students have been benefited.
(ii) Daily, two batches of Computer class of two month duration are conducted from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Till now, total 400 students have been benefited.
8. Daily, Ma Sarada Yoga class for ladies is conducted from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. with 30 participants.
9. Charitable Medical Activity : Free eye & dental camps are organized for poor & needy patients. Cataract & other eye operations are done free of cost.
10. Value education for children :
(A) Ma Sarada Baal Sanskar Kendra conduct classes for children on every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at our Prayer Hall.
(B) Swami Vivekananda Balak Sangh conducts class on every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at nearby village school for the slum children.
11. Personality Development Seminars for students : Seminars are organized occasionally on various topics for all round development of students. And Spiritual discourses & youth seminars are also conducted by monks of Ramakrishna Mission as and when they visit the centre.
12. Book sales : Along with permanent book sale section in the campus, the centre organizes outdoor exhibitions & mobile book stall occasionally.
13. Sister Nivedita Prakalp : Different competitions for housewives are organized occasionally.
14. National Youth Day Celebration: Cycle rally is organized in collaboration with National Medicos Organisation and Arogya Bharati, Gandhidham annually.
15. Narayan Seva : In every winter, blankets and winter clothes are distributed to needy people.
