The teachers of the science of Yoga, therefore, declare that religion is not only based upon the experience of ancient times, but that no man can be religious until he has the same perceptions himself. યોગવિજ્ઞાનના આચાર્યો ઘોષણા કરે છે કે ધર્મ પ્રાચીન કાળના અનુભવો પર રચાયેલો છે એટલું જ નહિ, પણ જ્યાં સુધી એ અનુભવોને પોતે પ્રાપ્ત કરે નહિ ત્યાં સુધી કોઈ પણ માણસ ધાર્મિક થઈ શકે નહિ. આ અનુભવો કેવી રીતે મેળવવા તે શીખવનારું વિજ્ઞાન છે યોગ. (સ્વામી વિવેકાનંદ ગ્રંથમાળા ભાગ. ૧ પૃ. ૧૪૦)

योगविद्या के आचार्यगण कहते हैं कि धर्म पूर्वकालीन अनुभवों पर केवल स्थापित ही नहीं, वरन् इन अनुभवों से स्वयं सम्पन्न हुए बिना कोई भी धार्मिक नहीं हो सकता। जिस विद्या के द्वारा ये अनुभव प्राप्त होते हैं, उसका नाम है योग। (विवेकानंद साहित्य V. 1 pg. 37)
