What we really want is head and heart combined. The heart is great indeed; it is through the heart that come the great inspirations of life. I would a hundred times rather have a little heart and no brain, than be all brains and no heart. Life is possible, progress is possible for him who has heart, but he who has no heart and only brains dies of dryness. (2.145)

આપણે સૌથી પહેલી જ જરૂરિયાત છે તે મગજ અને હૃદયનું જોડાણ છે. હૃદય જરૂર મહાન છે, કારણ કે જીવનની મહાન પ્રેરણાઓ હૃદયમાંથી જન્મે છે; સંપૂર્ણ મગજ અને હૃદયહીનતાના મુકાબલે મને તો થોડુંક હૃદય અને મગજનો અભાવ વધારે ગમે. જેની પાસે હૃદય છે તેને માટે જીવન શક્ય છે, તેનો વિકાસ પણ શક્ય છે; પણ જેની પાસે હૃદય નથી અને માત્ર મગજ છે તે શુષ્કતાથી મરે છે.
