If there is one word in the English language to represent the gift of India to the world, if there is one word in the English language to express the effect which the literature of India produces upon mankind, it is this one word, “fascination”. ભારતે વિશ્વને આપેલી ભેટનું યથાર્થ દર્શન કરાવે તેવો અંગ્રેજી ભાષામાં જો કોઈપણ શબ્દ હોય, ભારતનું સાહિત્ય માનવજાત ઉપર જે પ્રભાવ પાડે છે તે વ્યક્ત કરવાને માટે અંગ્રેજી ભાષામાં જો કોઈ એક માત્ર શબ્દ હોય તો તે શબ્દ છેઃ ‘ફેસિનેશન (fascination મોહમુગ્ધતા). તમને કાંઈક અચાનક આકર્ષી લે તેનાથી ઊલટો અર્થ દર્શાવનારો એ શબ્દ છે; જાણે કે ખબર પડવા દીધા વિના એ તમારા પર અજબ ભૂરકી નાખી દે છે.
