The mind is an instrument, as it were, in the hands of the soul, through which the soul catches external objects. The mind is constantly changing and vacillating, and can, when perfected, either attach itself to several organs, to one, or to none… But the perfected mind can be attached to all the organs simultaneously. મન તો, જાણે કે, આત્માના હાથમાં એક હથિયાર જેવું છે કે જેના વડે આત્મા બહારના પદાર્થોને ગ્રહણ કરે છે. મન નિરંતર બદલાતું રહે છે અને ડોલાયમાન રહ્યા કરે છે, પણ જ્યારે તે શુદ્ધ થાય, ત્યારે તેને એક જ ઇંદ્રિય સાથે કે એકસાથે ઘણી ઇંદ્રિયો સાથે પણ જોડી શકાય અથવા ઇંદ્રિય સાથે જોડાયા વિનાનું પણ રાખી શકાય… પણ તાલીમથી સંપૂર્ણ બનાવેલું મન સઘળી ઇંદ્રિયોની સાથે એકી સાથે જોડી શકાય. તેનામાં તેના પોતાના ઊંડાણમાં પાછું વળીને જોવાની એક સ્વાભાવિક શક્તિ રહેલી છે. मन तो मानो आत्मा के हाथों एक यन्त्र है। उसके द्वारा आत्मा बाहरी विषयों को ग्रहण करती है। मन सतत परिवर्तनशील है, इधर से उधर दोड़ता रहता है, कभी सभी इन्द्रियों से लगा रहता है, तो कभी एक से, और कभी I किसी भी इन्द्रिय से संलग्न नहीं रहता।… पर पूर्णताप्राप्त मन सभी इन्द्रियों से एक साथ लगाया जा सकता है। उसकी अन्तर्दृष्टि की शक्ति है, जिसके बल से मनुष्य अपने अन्तर के सबसे गहरे प्रदेश तक में नजर डाल सकता है। (विवेकानंद साहित्य v. 1pg.45)
