We all understand that desires are wrong, but what is meant by giving up desires? How could life go on? It would be suicidal advice, killing the desire and the man too. The solution is this. Not that you should not have property, not that you should not have things which are necessary and things which are even luxuries. ઇચ્છાઓ, તૃષ્ણાઓ ખોટી છે તે આપણે બધા સમજી શકીએ છીએ, પણ તેમનો ત્યાગ કરવો તેનો અર્થ શો ? એમ જીવન કેમ ચાલી શકે ? તે આત્મઘાતી ઉપદેશ બનશે ઇચ્છાનાશ સાથે માનવીનો પણ નાશ થશે. આ છે ઉપાય. એવું નથી કે તમારી પાસે મિલકત ન હોવી જોઈએ કે આવશ્યક ચીજો અથવા મોજશોખની ચીજો પણ ન હોવી જોઈએ. તમારે જોઈએ તે લો અને વધારે પણ લો; માત્ર સત્યને જાણો અને અનુભવો. સંપત્તિ કોઈની માલિકીની નથી; માલિકીની, કબજાની ભાવના ન રાખો… બધું ઈશ્વરની માલિકીનું છે… (સ્વામી વિવેકાનંદ ગ્રંથમાળા ભાગ. ૨ પૃ. ૩૭૮)
