For centuries people have been taught theories of degradation. They have been told that they are nothing… Let them hear of the Atman—that even the lowest of the low have the Atman within, which never dies and never is born—of Him whom the sword cannot pierce, nor the fire burn, nor the air dry—immortal, without beginning or end, the all-pure, omnipotent, and omnipresent Atman! સદીઓ સુધી અધોમાર્ગે લઈ જાય તેવા સિદ્ધાંતો જગતને શીખવવામાં આવ્યા છે. તેમને એમ જ સમજાવવામાં આવ્યું છે કે તમે કાંઈ જ નથી… હવે એ લોકોને આત્મા વિશે સમજાવો. તેમને કહો કે હલકામાં હલકા માનવીમાં પણ આત્મા રહેલો છે, આત્મા કદી મરતો નથી, કદી જન્મતો નથી, તલવાર એને છેદી શકતી નથી, અગ્નિ એને બાળી શકતો નથી, વાયુ એને સૂકવી શકતો નથી. આત્મા અમર છે, અનાદિ અને અનંત છે, પવિત્ર, સર્વશક્તિમાન અને સર્વવ્યાપક છે ! લોકોમાં આત્મશ્રદ્ધા પ્રગટાવો. सैकड़ों वर्षों से लोगों को मनुष्य की हीनावस्था का ही ज्ञान कराया गया है। उनसे कहा गया है कि वे कुछ नहीं हैं। अब उनको आत्मतत्त्व सुनने दो, यह जान लेने दो कि उनमें से नीच से नीच में भी आत्मा विद्यमान है – वह आत्मा, जो न कभी मरती है, न जन्म लेती है, जिसे न तलवार काट सकती है न आग जला सकती है और न हवा सुखा सकती है, जो अमर है, अनादि और अनन्त है, जो शुद्धस्वरूप, सर्वशक्तिमान और सर्वव्यापी है। उन्हें अपने में विश्वास करने दो । (विवेकानंद साहित्य ग्रंथ 5 पृष्ठ 119)
