It is well known that Swami Vivekananda during his wandering period in Gujarat had stayed at Darbar Hall of Limbdi for nearly ten days with Maharaja Sir Yashwantsinhji as his guest when he saved Swamiji from the hands of a degenerate sect of sadhus.

This historic Darbar Hall, with a magnificient clock tower, was handed over to the office bearers of Sri Ramakrishna Prarthana Mandir, Limbdi in 1971 by Rajmata Pravinkunvarba and Maharaja Shri Chhatrasalji. Shri Chhabildasbhai Shah and his son Shri Niranjanbhai Shah then conducted various humanitarian and cultural activities in the same royal building under the guidance of the monks of the Ramakrishna Order till they finally handed over the same along with a plot of six acres to the authorities of the Ramakrishna Mission for a starting a permanent branch centre of the Ramakrishna Misison.

In 1994, the same Tower Bungalow was inaugurated as ‘Vivekananda Memorial’.

On 4 September, 1996, the new dispensary building of the Limbdi centre was inaugurated by Swami Ranganathanandaji Maharaj, then Vice-President of Ramakrishna Math and Mission.

During the drought condition in Saurashtra, there was lack of drinking water. Ladies had to walk a long distance to bring water in the containers. Ramakrishna Mission, Limbdi started the work to deepen the lakes. Till now, more than 60 lakes have been deepened so that the water can be stored for entire year.

After the earthquake in 2001, the monks and devotees of mission contributed very hard and had done many relief works that include distribution of food and other necessities. Then, 25 schools and some residential houses that were deteriorated by earthquake were reconstructed.

Then the devotees felt the need of a new and big temple for daily worship and activities. So, the global temple of Sri Ramakrishna Deva was inaugurated on 1 November, 2014 on the auspicious day of Jagaddhatri Pooja by Swami Vagishanandaji Maharaj in the presence of Swami Suhitanandaji Maharaj, Swami Adibhavanandaji Maharaj and many other monks and devotees of India. Various devotees helped and served in the formation of this temple. Shri Devdoot Israni of Ahmedabad donated Rs. 50,000/- per month for 3 years. Along with him, Shri R.D. Tadvi and Shri Rajivbhai Nanavati also participated in this holy work. The MLA of Limbdi, Shri Kiritsinh Rana, took the responsibility of making this temple and he gathered a lot of industrialists and businessmen to accomplish this holy deed. The architect, Shri Girishbhai Maru contributed in creating the architectural map of the new temple.
