Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara was inaugurated on the auspicious day of Shri Ramnavami on 18 April, 2005. Previously, a private centre had been initiated in Vadodara with the title ‘Ramakrishna Vivekananda Kendra’ on 4 September, 1969 by Advocate Shri Gordhanbhai Patel under the guidance of Revered Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj. The activities of Kendra were functioning under the guidance of Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot. During this period, the Kendra bought land in 2003 at Kalali town. Many devotees heartily contributed right from the beginning of Kendra to build the foundation of Ramakrishna Mission and are still continuing their contribution. Many Sannyasins of Ramakrishna Order visited Vadodara and gave spiritual teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Ma Sarada and Swami Vivekananda to the devotees.
The historic ‘Dilaram Bungalow’ sanctified by the stay of Swami Vivekananda was handed over to Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission by then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi, in the presence of Revered Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj, the 15th President of Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission.
Our activities
Many spiritual, cultural, educational, medical, welfare and other service activities are carried out by Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara since its inception. Since past 13 years, many public programmes has been held out of which the important programmes are as under:
• Interfaith Meet programme in 2009, International Youth Conference in 2013 and 2018, Pre-parliament event in 2015, National Youth Convention in 2016 and 2017, Flood Relief Works at Banaskantha and Patan in the year 2017 and many other programmes have been organized.
Presently, main activities going on are as under:
• Spiritual and Cultural activities:
Arati, bhajans and meditation are done daily in the morning and evening. Lectures on Gita are held by Sannyasins of Ashrama.
Birth anniversaries of saints and prophets of all the religions are celebrated along with Shivaratri, Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Ramanavami, Shri Durga Puja, Guru Purnima, and Christmas eve.
• Vivekananda Book World:
Ramakrishna-Vivekananda literature, DVDs, photos, etc are available for sale in Gujarat, English and Hindi languages.
• Library:
There is a library containing around 17000 books. It facilitates the members to take books at home of reading by paying very little amount. (Timings: 3 pm to 6.30 pm – except Monday)
• Ramakrishna Gyan-Ganga project (for overall development of students):
Educational guidance, Values-education and healthy food is provided for the overall development of financially backward students under this project.
• Study circle:
Separate study circles are operated for young boys and girls. Through this, they are guided for Personality Development, and ideal of Nation building through character building.
• Vivekananda Sanskar Shibir:
Under this programme, Prayers, Gita recitation, Vedic chanting, Meditation, Bhajan, Group Discussion, Handicraft, Sports and other activities are held for the children of age between 7 and 13 years. Along with Ashrama premises, such Shibirs are also organised at different places namely Subhanpura, Padra, Anand, Nimach (Dist. Dahod), Bharuch, Surat, Kalali town, and Chapad village.
• Free Mobile Medical Services for the villages:
Mobile Medical Services are functional every Sunday at remote villages where medical facilities are rare.
• Medical Services in Ashrama Campus:
From Monday to Saturday, morning 9 to 12, medical services are provided at reasonable rates.
Eye testing is conducted every Friday at reasonable rates by a qualified doctor and also, operation of the eyeball is done free of cost at Sankheda.
