Dhaneti which is situated at 25 kms from Bhuj has a special place among the towns of Bhuj Taluka (County). There is a story behind starting of this centre due to the intimate relation with Ramakrishna Math and Mission. In 1969-70, there was severe drought in Kutch. So there was poor condition of the people especially who were farmers and caretaker of animals. But due to the feeling of self-respect, people were shortening their lives instead of asking for help. Following the motto of ‘Shiva Jnane Jiva Seva’, the then President of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot, Rev. Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj visited Dhaneti and offered the plan of relief work among the people. The people of Dhaneti praised the concern taken by monks but respectfully declined to accept the help saying ‘we cannot take help from Sadhu’. To this, Rev. Swami Atmasthanandaji said to consider this service as a loan and offered them to return it in their good time along with interest. Since then, the relation is built between people of Dhaneti and Ramakrishna Mission which has not only been reserved till now but is continuously developing the picture of which can be seen from the following mentioned activities. After that time, the relief works were held in the years 1974-75-76.
By the devastating earthquake of 2001, Dhaneti was also severely affected. Having heard this news, Rev. Swami Jitatmanandaji Maharaj, the then President of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot, reached at Dhaneti along with other Monks and Brahmacharis by the evening of the next day. They distributed several necessary things and did the relief and started the process of building Ramakrishna Nagar. In addition, the works were also done for the formation and maintenance of schools. As an introduction to these schools, founded by Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot and Ramakrishna Seva Samiti are Vivekananda Vidyalaya Bhavan in 1999 and Vivekananda Bakshipanch Kumar Chhatralaya founded on 10th February, 2007. After earthquake, the maintenance of the existing school and formation of new rooms in school were done. The Vivekananda Vidyalaya which has now extended to Higher Secondary level accommodates 465 students out of which 168 students are girls.
The relief work for animals was done by Ramakrishna Seva Samiti during the scarcity period in Kutch.
The Committee runs Vivekananda Vidyalaya which gives moral values of the teachings of Holy Trio along with formal education. Tailoring classes and many other activities have also been organized under the guidance of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot.
After Rev. Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj became Brahmaleen on 18-06-2017, the town of Dhaneti was under shock. A Bhandara (Food Prasad distribution programme) was organized in his memory. In this programme, people of town gathered Rs. 11 lac and after the memory of Rev. Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj, a ‘Sant Niwas’ was constructed in the campus of Vivekananda Bakshipanch Kumar Chhatralaya for the convenience of monks during the visit as guests.
Our present activities
1. The regular activities like Pooja, Evening Arati, etc are done at Ramakrishna Mandir in the temple of Ramakrishna Nagar.
2. Birth anniversary of the Holy Trio and other disciples of Sri Ramakrishna Deva are celebrated in the Vivekananda Vidyalaya.
3. Blood donation camps are organized with the help of Vivekananda Medical and Education Trust.
4. The committee also contributes in ‘Saraswati Sanman’ programme which is organized every year.
5. Occasional distribution of school uniforms, books and other materials to the needy students.
